Vintage Versamark - JAI14

This week the team at Just Add Ink have challenged everyone to "Just Add Vintage".  You can see the Design Team's inspiration pieces & all the great entries here.

To me, Vintage evokes thoughts of lace, pearls & ribbon, so that is what I have added to my creation.  Here it is:-

I have stamped the SU Medallion stamp in Versamark ink (my inkpad is almost vintage - it's at least 15 years old! lol) & then embossed it with white opaque powder. I have softened the silver hardware by painting it with white pearl paint & then scuffing it back once dry.

I have made the card to go with this door hanger:-

For more details, see my next post.

Card Components:
Cardstock:  Whisper White
Patterned Paper:  Sullivans Wedding Collection
Stamp Sets:  SU Medallion, Short & Sweet (?)
Inks:  Versamark, Pink Pirouette

Michelle Perkett Studio Door Hanger Challenge

To celebrate Michelle Perkett reaching 300 members on her site at Paper Craft Planet, Lynne has organised a door hanger challenge.  To play along, or view all the lovely creations, you can visit Lynne's site here.  (There are also details on Lynne's site for a door hanger tutorial.)

This is my creation using Lynne's template.  I have created a pattern to cut on my Robo, layering several layers of white cardstock.  I also made an inner mat, which I have cut in a wedding print paper.

I have used Michelle's glorious digital image "Amore Fairy".  With Michelle's permission I have printed her without her wings.  She makes a stunning bride!

Here is a close up of Amore:-

Amore has been laser printed on watercolour paper & coloured with stamp pad inks & an aquapainter.  I have added glitter to her hair & the roses.  Sorry but I can never get that to show in my photographs!  :(

Her lips have been clear embossed & she is lifted up on dimensionals.  I have gathered a fine tulle veil behind her floral headpiece.  I also cut out a reverse stencil of her dress, masking her up, so that I could spray her dress with pearl glimmer mist.  Now it looks like shimmery organza (honest, it does).  I even gave her a pearl earring.  :)

Congratulations to Michelle for reaching this milestone & for her beautiful images.  Thank you also to Lynne for organising such a fun challenge & for supplying the template & tutorial as well.  :)

I made the hanger for the bridal/deb shop where we purchased my daughter's deb dress.  They were soooo helpful (good old fashioned service).  I am going to send it with a thank you card & a photo after her ball next week.

Michelle Perkett Studio Earth Day Blog Hop - Post No. 2

Hi & welcome.  If this is your first visit to my site, please make sure you read both posts, the link to the next stop in your tour (Shelley) is at the end of the next post.  :)

If you are returning for a second visit, here is my second project.

Here is the before shot:-

& here is is after I attacked it:-

If you are kind of scratching your head, wondering why I've done this, have a lookie here:-

Instead of a boring old empty picture frame, it has now become a very dressy "whiteboard" for my crafting space (& it matches my cardbox).

The image I have used is Michelle Perkett's beautiful "Just Breathe" mermaid.  She is laser printed on watercolour paper & coloured with stamp pad inks & an aquapainter & then "fussy" cut & mounted under the glass. (BTW I have discovered shooting anything with glass is a nightmare!)

Hope you are thoroughly enjoying your tour around the hop, make sure you go to the bottom of my next post so you can go & visit Shelley.  :)

Michelle Perkett Studio Earth Day Blog Hop

Hi all,

Welcome to the Michelle Perkett Studio Earth Day Blog Hop.  You have arrived here from Therese.  Hope you enjoyed Therese's lovely project.

I chose to recycle a box that my daughter had pulled out from under her bed when she cleaned up her room recently.  :)

Here is a before shot:-

& here is what I have done to it:-

I had originally planned to paint sections of the box but in a moment of madness I decided I would totally recover it (madness that took several hours!)  Here's what it looked like during deconstruction:-

I put an acetate panel in the lid of the box so you can see inside:-

& now it can house my completed cards while they are waiting to be given out.  I have added tabbed dividers which I will label later on:-

& here is a close up of Michelle's beautiful "Just Breathe" digital stamp image.  She has been printed by laser on watercolour paper & I have coloured her with stamp pad inks & an aquapainter.  I have added pearls, glitter & dazzling diamonds to make her sparkle:-

Hope you like my project.

Next stop on the tour is the lovely Shelley.

Helen  :)

Amore Debutante

This week Makeesha has set another great sketch challenge.  You can play along here

I have chosen to make a card for my daughter, who is doing her deb ball next week.  Here is my (pink & sparkly) creation:-

The image is a digital stamp by the extremely talented Michelle Perkett.  It is called "Amore Fairy".  With Michelle's permission, I have used the very beautiful Amore without her wings *waving Michelle :)*.

Amore has been printed by laser on watercolour paper & coloured with stamp pad inks & an aquapainter.  Her gown has been highlighted with Dazzling Diamonds & she has glitter pen highlights in the roses (sorry, I didn't quite catch that in the photos - might take another close-up shot later.)  Amore has been popped up on dimensionals.

Okay, here she is looking way more sparkly, but the colour is off.

I have also added Dazzling Diamonds to the word "happiness" to highlight it.

Thanks Keesh & Michelle. :)

Edited to add:

Thanks Keesh for the HM!  :)

Origami on the Edge - JAI13

This week the team at Just Add Ink have tempted us with a colour challenge - Barely Banana, Kiwi Kiss & Chocolate Chip!  Yum!  To play along & see the DT's delicious creations visit here.

Here is my creation this week:-

I wanted to make a slightly "technical" card for my son, who is studying to become an engineer.  When he opened the card, he dryly informed me "that it was folded paper, so it wasn't paper engineering, it was ORIGAMI!"

Anyway, this is how the card looked before it was folded & the kiwi & chocolate DSP panels were added:-

The finished card is 4 x 6 inches (cardstock measures 4" x 11").  The first fold is at 1", the second is at 2", the third is at 4.1/2" & the final fold is at 7".  The letters were stamped BEFORE any folds were made (I had ruled in a light pencil line as a guide to stamp the letters).  I simply cut around the right hand side of the letters with a scalpel & also trimmed around some of the letters on their left hand side.  Then the card was folded.  (Only fold above & below the letters, so the letters sit flat "out on the edge".)

I removed the pins from a brad & adhered it to the full stop with a dimensional dot.

This is how the card looks from above (from behind), so you can see how the letters on the edge work:-

By the way, I told my dear son that next year he was getting one of these, which actually is origami!  :)

Remember playing with these as kids, writing numbers on the panels & a "fortune" under each flap?

Card Components
Cardstock:  Barely Banana, Kiwi Kiss, Chocolate Chip
DSP:  Windsor Knot, Kiwi Kiss Patterns
Stamps:  Jumbo Outline Alphabet
Inks:  Kiwi Kiss, Chocolate Chip, So Saffron (sorry, didn't have Banana)
Other:  Copper Brads, Dimensional Adhesive

Barrel Full of Fun - JAI12

This week the team at Just Add Ink have given a wonderful sketch challenge.  There are loads of possibilities with this one!

When I first saw the "Fox & Friends" set being used on US sites, I knew I just had to have it as soon as it arrived here.  All the animals are just so adorable!

Anyway, the monkeys reminded me of the ones from the classic game "a Barrel of Monkeys" (but they are much cuter) so I put a simple pop-up barrel inside the card & lots of linky monkeys.

Here is both the inside & outside of my card (plus another shot of the monkey chain):-

All the monkeys are individually cut out & raised on dimensionals. The sentiments are computer generated.  The barrel was cut using an oval template, then bands were added & it was all chalked for extra dimension.

Edited to add:

The lovely ladies at JAI made this card a top pick, thank you!  Thank you to everyone who left lovely comments!  :)

Doggy In The Window

Hi!  This week I was able to play along with the challenge at Michelle Perkett's Studio.  The challenge is to use a favourite colour combo, plus lace & pearls, as well as one of Michelle's beautiful digital stamps.

I really had fun with this one!!!!  :)

I chose to use "Scooter" (an adorable, fluffy puppy), plus the flowers from "Just Breathe" (a gorgeous mermaid).

Here is my creation, using a yummy blue & cream colour combo:-

My own doggy (a beautiful, long-haired shepherd named Asha) sits in the window like this, waiting for my hubby to come home.  It seemed appropriate to use part of the "miss you so much" sentiment stamp on the wall plaque to express how Scooter was feeling!

The card is a shadow-box design.  Here is a photo looking down on the card so you can see how it is assembled.  For instructions on how to make a basic shadow box card, visit Dawn Griffith's site (here).

The front & rear panels are 5.1/2" x 5.1/2", scored in from each side at 1/2" & then at 7/8".

Other than papercraft, I also have a "thing" for domestic architecture & love these American style windows.  I created & cut the window frame, window surrounds, window sill & shutters on my Craft Robo.  Scooter & the flowers were printed by Laser [thanks Lynne! :)] on watercolour paper & then coloured with watercolour pencils & an aquapainter, as well as markers & glitter pens.  I fussy cut them out with scissors, which was very tricky as Scooter is only 1.1/2" tall!

Scooter, the wall plaque, the window shutters & the flowers are all attached to the card using dimensional adhesive.  I have used embroidery floss for the "vines" on the shutters & acetate for the window "glass".

Thanks to Tammy & the DT at Michelle Perkett's Studio this week for such an awesome challenge!

Card Components
Cardstock:  SU Naturals Ivory, Night of Navy, Not Quite Navy, Bordering Blue, Kraft, Watercolour Paper
DSP:  Parisian Breeze Specialty DSP
Stamp Sets:  "Scooter" & "Just Breathe" digital stamps by Michelle Perkett, Teeny Tiny Sentiments from SU
Inks:  Not Quite Navy
Other:  Acetate, Watercolour Pencils, Glitter Pens, Markers, Lace, Half Pearls, Embroidery Floss, Dimensional Adhesives

Exploding Suitcase!!!

No, not the kind with a bomb in it - it's one with an "exploding" insert!  :)

I have made it in Makeesha's Challenge colours for this week, which are Brocade Blue, Creamy Caramel, Chocolate Chip & Very Vanilla.

I've put together a collage, so you can see how the insert "explodes", as well as the little details.

This kind of interactive card is lots of fun for the recipient.

This card uses lots of "bits", but not a lot of stamping.  I did make one up with a second generation all over print to look like tapestry, but it was too strong for my liking, so I resorted to the simple little swirl at the base of the bag.

The sentiment was computer generated.

The tags are made from the scallop square punch.

Edited  to add:

I was very excited to discover that Makeesha chose me as her challenge winner this week.  Thanks Keesh & thank you to everyone for all the lovely comments.  :)

Clear Wish

This week Makeesha has given us a sketch challenge to play with (you can see it here).  I loved the simple sketch & decided to use a very simple image with it.

The card is made from acetate & have used the blossom(?) shape from the Good Friends set along with the rosebud stem from the Embrace Life set.  I have stamped the images using white Staz On.  Dazzling Diamonds has been added to the dandelion blossoms.

It was rather tricky to photograph without too much glare.  Here it is open so you can see where the layers sit.

Card Components
Cardstock:  Kiwi Kiss, Whisper White
DSP:  Bella Rose
Stamp Sets:  Good Friend, Embrace Life
Ink:  White Staz On, Kiwi Kiss
Other:  Clear Acetate, Dazzling Diamonds
